💡Total Utility and Marginal Utility in Economics💡
💡Total Utility💡
Total utility refers to the total satisfaction or benefit a consumer derives from consuming a certain quantity of a good or service. It is the sum of the utility obtained from each unit consumed. Total utility can be positive, negative, or zero, depending on the level of satisfaction derived from consuming a particular quantity of a good or service.
For example, imagine a person consuming slices of pizza. With each additional slice consumed, the person experiences an increase in total utility as the satisfaction derived from each slice adds up. However, at a certain point, the person may reach a level where further consumption of pizza leads to a decrease in total utility due to feelings of over-fullness or boredom.
💡Marginal Utility💡
Marginal utility, on the other hand, refers to the additional utility gained from consuming one more unit of a good or service. It is the change in total utility resulting from consuming an additional unit of a good or service.
For example, if a student is studying for an exam and chooses to spend an extra hour studying economics instead of taking a break, the marginal utility of that additional hour is the increase in knowledge or confidence gained from studying for that extra hour. The student will keep studying until the marginal utility of studying for an extra hour becomes lower than the utility gained from taking a break.
In economic theory, consumers tend to allocate their resources in a way that maximizes total utility. By analyzing the concepts of total utility and marginal utility, economists can better understand consumer behavior, preferences, and decision-making processes.

NOTES
Total Utility: 💰📈 Total utility refers to the total satisfaction or benefit gained from consuming a certain quantity of a good or service. It is the overall happiness or usefulness a consumer receives from all units of a product consumed.
Example: 🍕🍕🍕 If a consumer eats three slices of pizza and gains a total utility of 20 utils, this means that the person's overall satisfaction from consuming those three slices is 20 utils.
Marginal Utility: 🥪⬆️ Marginal utility is the additional satisfaction or benefit gained from consuming one more unit of a good or service. It measures the change in total utility when consuming an additional unit of a product.
Example: 🍦🍦 If a consumer eats two scoops of ice cream and gains 10 utils of total utility. If consuming a third scoop of ice cream increases the total utility to 14 utils, then the marginal utility of the third scoop is 4 utils (14 total utils - 10 total utils).
